Scorched
Scorched
53” x 38”
After a spate of wild fires in California that extended well past its usual season, I started to consider the idea of scorched earth; the remnants of forest left behind, that which was cleared away, and that destroyed by unstoppable all consuming flames.
This piece “Scorched” features gaping holes and spaces, not typical of my usual work - included to represent the deserted and empty areas of forest devastation, partnered with dense areas of weaving to show the embers and ash left behind. Some portions of this piece are reshaped warp winding into fine intricate details and building into bulky twisted elements.
